Cambrian Tyres League – Division 1
The crowd were thrilled this afternoon in an action packed afternoon with 7 goals, plenty of yellow cards and one red card!
Up against a strong wind in the first half the Magpies started the game brightly creating a few half chances in the first 20 minutes. Despite this it was Talybont who struck first when Barrie Southgate ran onto a long ball, that caught the Street defence flat-footed, and lobbed Rhys Evans in goal. Despite this setback the Street continued to press and got their equaliser through former Talybont player, Nick Smith, when his long range strike caught the keeper by surprise at his front post. This spurred on the Reserves who then went ahead through last seasons top goal-scorer, Shaun Jones, as he notched his first of the afternoon. Barrie Southgate got his second of the match with a fine strike. The sides went into the break level, 2 goals apiece.
Street manager, Rod Jones, introduced Guto Havard on the left at the interval and it was this decision that proved to be decisive when the Street scored 3 goals in the first 20 minutes of the second half. Gethin ap Dafydd got his second goal in as many games, along with Dean Evans and Shaun Jones grabbing his second of the match. Street were reduced to ten men when skipper Sam Dowden was shown a straight red for a rash challenge. However, with the experienced Pete James dropping back alongside Matt Williams and Sion Manley Street were able to see out the game for 3 vital away points.
