Cambrian Tyres League – Division 1
Honors were even in the first local derby of the season after the match ended in a 1-1 draw. The Magpies will feel like it was 2 points dropped having created the better chances throughout the game. In a half of very few chances it was the Magpies that went into the lead through Stephen Harrison’s first goal of the season following a corner. That’s how it remained for the rest of the half.
The second half didn’t really spark into life until the equaliser went in after a Robbie Southgate cross took a slight deflection off James Scarrott’s head. Talybont had their best spell of the game after that when they put the Bow Street defence under a bit of pressure for 10 minutes. The back four of James Scarrott, Matt Williams, Marc Loosley and Gethin ap Dafydd doing well to stifle the home teams chances. The defensive display allowed wingers Guto Havard and Tom Evans to cause some problems to the Talybont defence. The Magpies were given a great opportunity to take the lead when Guto Harvard was tripped in the box after some great footwork. Veteran Nick Smith stepped up only for him to drag the penalty wide against the club he started for 20 years ago!
The Magpies had a couple of excellent chances after that with Ian Evans and Shaun Jones missing chances in the final minutes. The Magpies will be disappointed with dropping two points but can take heart from the display, never giving up until the final whistle and showing an excellent defensive display with their make-shift defence.
