Spar League Cup – Round 1

Saturday 14/10

Bow Street progressed to the next round of the League Cup after defeating second division Penybont United. Bow Street struggled to breakdown Penybont in the early exchanges, who had set up to defend deep and hit Street on the counter. Bow Street struggled with their passing but still pushed on to get that opening goal. They were hit by a counter attack though when Penybont’s winger ran through from his own half to put the home team one nil up. This seemed to wake Bow Street up and a superb Mark Gornall free kick bought them level. They went on to hit the woodwork twice more before Penybont struck again as they hit Street on the counter attack. Just as half time loomed Andrew Gittins poked in from close range to bring the scores level at the interval.

Manager Baz Williams had a few choice words at half time and altered formation slightly. Bow Street were much better in the second half as a brace from Ben Jones and another from Andrew Gittins sealed the victory. Penybont ended the scoring with a late consolation goal.

All three subs were used and they added energy to the performance in the second half. What proved to be a difficult opening half was soon put behind them as they showed their quality in the second half. Their name goes into the hat for the next round!
