Junior Tournament 2013

Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th July 2013

This coming weekend will be a momentous one for Bow Street Football Club. The club’s highly prestigious annual junior tournament will celebrate ten years of its existence. Since the inaugural tournament in 2003, the event has steadily grown in to one of largest and most successful in Wales. The tournament is organised by the Spar Mid Wales League team, and the games will take place on 10 different pitches at the club’s Cae Piod ground.

This year has attracted record entries with at least 116 teams taking part in the seven different categories, surpassing last year’s record of 102 teams. Teams from as far as the Lleyn Peninsula, Pembrokeshire, Ebbw Vales and Shropshire will compete on the two days, and competition takes place on Saturday at under 6’s, under 8’s, under 10,s and under 11’s. On Sunday, teams compete at under 12’s, under 14’s and under 16’s.

Bow Street chairman Wyn Lewis said, ‘We are very proud that this tournament continues to go from strength to strength, and it is obvious from the entries that its popularity is still increasing. We are very grateful to the clubs from all over Wales, and sometimes beyond, who have continuously supported us. ‘Looking back to its origins in 2003, we are very grateful for the vision, courage and determination shown by Allan Evans and Phil Evans in establishing the two day tournament. We were delighted and honoured that the Wales team manager, Chris Coleman visited us last year. This year we are expecting the S4C cameras to be present.’

Tournament organiser, Gerwyn Evans says ‘This year has again attracted an excellent number of entries and we look forward to an enjoyable two days competition, and it appears the weather is going to be very favourable!’ Tournament Coordinator, Amlyn Ifans added ‘As a club we are extremely proud that we continue to facilitate such a prestigious event, which gives our own junior players valuable experience of challenging players from outside the locality.’ One of the original organisers, Allan ‘Baba’ Evans said, ‘It is amazing to see how far this event has developed since we started it in 2003. I am so proud that Phil and I had the foresight and determination to see through our plans that first year. The way that the whole club has embraced the tournament since is unbelievable!!’

Play starts at 10.00 a.m. on both days, a wide variety of refreshments are available, and, as ever, there is ample parking space.
