Junior Tournament 2012

Superb 10th anniversary celebrations at Bow Street!

Record crowds and record entries were attracted to the village of Bow Street on the weekend of July 14 and 15 as the football club held its annual junior tournament for the tenth time. This prestigious tournament continues to increase in popularity: when the tournament started in 2003, just over 30 teams participated, this year 101 took part over the two days. Teams from as far apart as the Lleyn Peninsula and St Clears attended the event, and all visitors were complimentary of the way the tournament was organised and controlled. Fortunately, and surprisingly in this summer, the two days were blessed with dry, and sometimes sunny weather.

The star attraction this year was Wales team manager, Chris Coleman. He and the FAW Roadshow trailor visited the event to help the club celebrate its tenth year. He spent three and a half hours at Cae Piod, happily mingling with officials, signing hundreds of autographs and watching a number of the games.
Club chairman, Wyn Lewis said, ’It was an honour and a privilege to have Chris Coleman at the tournament to help us celebrate this momentus occasion. This festival takes a great deal of time to organise, and I am grateful to our committee and helpers for their phenomenal commitment. Also, I wish to thank Neville Evans for kindly sponsoring the event.
Gerwyn Evans, the main festival organiser said, ‘We are absolutely delighted with the great success of this year’s tournament. It makes all the hard work in preparing for the event worthwhile when you see so much enjoyment being had by both the children and adults.’
Allan Evans, the original tournament organiser from 2003 to 2009 said 'It is hard to believe that what we started nine years ago has grown into this large and very popular event. It is such a reward seeing so many children enjoying themselves.'
Arrangements are already under way for the eleventh anniversary of the tournament on July 13th and 14th, 2013.
