League Cup – Round 1

Saturday 07/12

Bow Street Res progressed to the quarter finals of the league cup with a 3-1 home victory over Llanilar. It was a great victory for the Reserves over a Llanilar team that had improved over the last few weeks since the league encounter between the two teams.

Despite the conditions in the days leading up to the game the pitch at Cae Piod was in good condition and the Magpies were able to play some of their passing game that we’d seen throughout the season. Despite the good start it was Llanilar that took the lead with their first real attack of the game. The Llanilar forward wriggling his way through the defence and beating Rhys Evans in goal. The Res were level at half time though when Nick Smith converted a penalty.

Street started the second half well and were rewarded after a fine team move was finished off by Gethin ap Dafydd. After some slick passing in midfield between veterans Smith and Pete James, the other veteran Stephen Harrison found himself in space in the area and floated a delightful ball to the back post where Gethin ap Dafydd headed in.

Llanilar decided to throw caution to the wind and started to take more risks. Ex-Aber player Huw Bonner was introduced to the attack in search of a equaliser but it was Bow Street, and young Shaun Jones, that put the game to bed. Jones was left one on one with the Llanilar defence and as he turned back in on the goal he slotted nicely past the keeper to put Bow Street into the next round.
