Bow Street and Tywyn produced a thrilling game in challenging weather, with the home side earning all three points with a late penalty from Mark Gornall. The game was played in continuous drizzle but the Cae Piod surface stood up well to the inclement conditions.

Following an even first half hour, the home side took the lead with two goals in quick succession. First, Andrew Gittins finished superbly in the penalty area following good work by Tom Evans. Secondly, the roles were reversed as Gittins set up Evans to double the lead. But, just on half time Tywyn hit back with a Dave Jenkins goal.

The game changed totally in the 5 minutes after half time as two goals from corners put the away side 3-2 up. Aston Heath and Joseph Bell both scored from corners having escaped their markers.

For a while it looked as if Tywyn would add to their lead, but the home side got back in the game in the last 20 minutes. Llion Jenkins scored the equaliser with 15 minutes left and five minutes later, Tom Evans was fouled in the penalty area, and Mark Gornall coolly slotted the ball home.

Both sides had opportunities in a final frantic few minutes but the home side’s players and supporters were both relieved and delighted to hear the final whistle.

Manager Barry Williams said, ‘What a game that was. Might be great for spectators to watch but for us as a management team, that was hard going! We switched off at set pieces after half time, and this put us under enormous pressure. Proud of the way the boys fought back and absolutely delighted to get the three points.’

Next Saturday, Bow Street travel to high flying Llanfair for a league match.
