Spar Mid Wales League – Division 1
Cae Piod, bathed in stunning sunshine, witnessed an excellent game between two quality sides resulting in a fair result of two goals apiece. Both teams had achieved excellent midweek victories; Carno beat high flying Llanidloes by 4 goals to nil on Tuesday and Bow Street had beaten Aberaeron on Wednesday.
It was Carno who took the lead midway through the first half following a mix up in the home defence, and they had a couple of opportunities to add to their lead. Bow Street came back in to the game as the interval approached, and they drew level when Mathew Evans forced the ball home
The home side were far more cohesive in a thrilling second half, and took the lead after 55 minutes when centre half Tom Wyn Roberts scored from a Mark Gornall free kick. However, from the kick off, Carno broke clear and immediately equalised.
Both sides had opportunities to win the game. The visitors were awarded a somewhat dubious penalty, but keeper Ben Willis produced a very good save.
Manager Barry Williams said, ‘Draw was a fair result. Carno are a very good side, and will be challenging at the top end of the table all season. Even this early in the season, injuries are mounting up, taken their toll on the squad so I am happy to announce that we have resigned the vastly experienced Stefano Antoniazi today. He will be a very valuable asset to us this season.’
