Spar Mid Wales League 2009/10

26th June 2009

First team manager Huw Bates and committee member Gwyn Evans attended the Spar Mid Wales League AGM last night during which Dolgellau, Llansaintffraid Village and Hay St Marys were accepted into the League while Kerry’s relegation was finally confirmed. It was also confirmed that up to five teams could be relegated from the League next year in what promises to be an exciting and competitive season. In the league cup draw Street avoided a preliminary round tie for the first time in three seasons at this level and will face Llanfyllin at home in round one. Bates reflected on the night’s events: “It was great to get confirmation that Hay, Dolgellau and Llansaintffraid have all been promoted and I look forward to facing all three teams next season, especially Dolgellau who are very well known to us and Hay who we will be welcoming to Cae Piod on the 1st August for a pre-season friendly. As far as the league cup draw is concerned there are no easy games at this level but I can’t complain with a home draw, especially as we’ve managed to avoid the preliminary round which provided us with an early exit from the competition last season.”

However, both Danny Whiteway and Jamie Dowse have left Penparcau for the Magpies and although veteran goalkeeper Nathan Bennett has returned to his former club Llanilar, Barry Edwards has moved to Bow Street from Aberaeron as has Lee Jones from Padarn Utd. Street manager Huw Bates was clearly delighted with his new signings: "I never like to see players leave Bow Street but I wish Josh, Jason, Michael and Nathan and their new clubs all the best for the rest of the season. I'd also like to welcome Tim, Lee, Danny, Barry and Jamie to the club and I am sure they will all be great additions to our squad.". Bates added: "Without question the biggest signing we have made is that of Tim Turner from Penrhyncoch. I've watched Penrhyn several times over the past few years and Tim has consistently been one of their better players and therefore I am very excited about what he could achieve for Bow Street during the rest of the season."
